Finalists Selected for 76/Circle K Teacher of the Year Program

Nine teachers have been selected as finalists for the ninth annual 76/Circle K Outstanding High School Faculty Awards Program. One finalist will be announced as the program’s Teacher of the Year at a banquet dinner on Feb. 18 at the Eddie Lynch Athletics Pavilion on the UA campus and during the UA men’s basketball game on Feb. 19. 

The awards program honors selected high school teachers throughout Southern Arizona who exemplify the best the teaching profession has to offer. Finalists will receive a commemorative ring and tickets to a UA men’s basketball game and will be featured in a special KOLD 13 newscast. The winning teacher of the year will receive $1,000 for his or her school. 

The following teachers were selected as finalists: 

• James Ewing — biology/anatomy/physiology teacher, Ironwood Ridge High School

• Emil Lamanda — drama teacher, Santa Rita High School

• John Willy — mathematics teacher, Tucson High Magnet School

• Nemer Hassey — algebra teacher, Cienega High School

• Beverly Waters — biology/‘Teachers of Tomorrow’ teacher, Flowing Wells High School

• Chris Yetman — mathematics/academic decathlon teacher, Canyon del Oro High School

• Gary Slagel — mathematics teacher, Pueblo High Magnet School

• Mellodie Stratman — special education teacher, Mountain View High School

• Beth Cirzan — language arts teacher, Marana High School
