TUSD-TV recently resumed its educational programming on local cable systems thanks to a $25,000 donation received in August from Access Tucson

Currently Tucsonans can see a blend of student productions and educational programming from the Annenberg/Corporation for Public Broadcasting service on the TUSD channel on Channel 95 on Cox Cable and Channel 71 on Comcast.

Reaching more than 100,000 households in the Tucson region via cable, the channel was dormant for 18 months due to TUSD budget constraints. Last spring, under the auspices of the Fine Arts Department, TUSD began fundraising efforts to begin program services again.

“This year our schedule will be a blend of student productions, local programming and shows available via satellite,“ says Mary Canty, TUSD-TV’s Education Manager. “I can think of no better way to reach the community with the diversity and creativity that is represented in our school system. Access Tucson is a valuable community partner. They stepped up immediately to help out.”

TUSD-TV facilities include studio, satellite communications and field production equipment located in the Video Communications Building, next to the Lee Instructional Resource Center, 2025 E. Winsett, Tucson, AZ, 85719.

Established in 1984, Access Tucson is an independent, non-profit, membership based organization that provides training and facilities for Tucsonans to communicate with the community utilizing electronic media. Access Tucson is funded by the cable operator, by private or corporate donations, and is eligible for funding from the City of Tucson.
