TUSD Governing Board member Joel Ireland was recognized with
the 2005 All-Arizona School Board award from the Arizona School
Boards Association, also known as ASBA, on Thursday, Dec.
15 at an awards ceremony held in Phoenix.
Mr. Ireland was among five school board members from across
the state--and the only one in Tucson--who received
what is considered the association's highest honor for
an individual board member. Awardees are nominated by their
fellow board members and judged by a panel of their peers
from across Arizona. Board members are selected based on the
following criteria:
- proven records of active service on their school district
governing board;
- leadership at the local, state and federal level;
- demonstrated concern for the district's children;
- rapport with fellow board members;
- commitment to a boardsmanship training and
- support for ASBA and its activities
