Members of a local Eagle Scout troop will plant 14 trees and
4 bushes on the south and east sides of C. E. Rose Elementary
School, 710 W. Michigan Dr., at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20.
The Eagle Scout troop chose to plant trees at C. E. Rose as
part of a community service project. Previously the school
had had trees planted where the troop plans to put the new
trees, but they died from root rot.
The trees were donated by Tucson Clean and Beautiful as part
of the non-profit’s Trees for Tucson program, funded
by Tucson Electric Power, which encourages and facilitates
tree planting using desert-adapted trees such as mesquite,
palo verde, sweet acacia and desert willow. The program’s
mission is to beautify Tucson while shading buildings to conserve
energy, absorbing air-pollutants, and controlling erosion
and wind.
