Short Week: HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Monday/Tuesday: Block Schedule
Wednesday: School Release Time 2:10
Thursday/Friday: NO SCHOOL
Rincon High School received a B letter grade! Congratulations to our students and staff for their continued hard work. This year, 2019-2020 the format for the Arizona letter grading system will change. Only sophomores will be taking the exam and the state is no longer allowing schools to utilize the ACT as their testing measure. If you have a sophomore student, please encourage him/her to do their very best on the state testing that will take place in April, as these results are used to determine Rincon's academic standing. Sophomore students will take the AIMS Science exam and the AzM2 which tests reading, writing and mathematics proficiency.
To ensure our students are prepared, we utilize a benchmark testing system. Ask your freshmen and sophomore students about their recent benchmark scores.
Now that we have two weeks of the new student drop-off procedure in place, traffic seems to flowing a little more smoothly. Thank you all for your patience throughout this transition. Positive change takes time and your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
IMPORTANT TUSD BUS INFORMATION: Starting Monday, November 25th, TUSD busses will be dropping off and picking up students in the NORTH parking lot off of 5th. We are piloting this procedure to see if moving the bus pick-up/drop-off zone helps improve the traffic flow even more. If the pilot is successful, it will open up even more options for student drop-off and pick-up. IF YOUR CHILD RIDES A TUSD BUS, PLEASE BE SURE TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH HIM/HER.
During this pilot, all other established procedures will remain in place. Handi-car and parent drop-off/pick-up for special needs students will not change. Only TUSD buss drop-off and pick-up will change.
Rincon Hours of Operation
Rincon High School’s hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students who are not involved in extracurricular activities or are not attending tutoring will be required to leave campus by 3:30 p.m.
We are extremely fortunate to have a dinner program here on our campus. Dinner is served between 3:30-4:45 p.m. for students who need to eat. Please note, students who stay to eat will also be required to clear campus once they are finished eating.
We are seeing an increased number of students who are staying on campus, which is great. However, if they are not here for a specific purpose, they will be required to leave. Our school safety crew is limited after our normal hours of operation, so for the safety purposes, we cannot have students loitering on campus without a specific purpose.
The TUSD Student Code of Conduct will be enforced during after-hours operation. Please speak with your student so that he/she is aware that they are to respect all rules during this time. Students who violate the Student Code of Conduct are at risk of losing after hours privileges related to tutoring and/or the dinner program.
Paperless Report Cards
In an attempt to be more environmentally friendly in this digital age, TUSD is moving to paperless report cards starting in January of 2021. The December report card that will be mailed out at the end of this semester will be our last grade paper report. With registration now 100% online and report cards going paperless, this is another reason all parents should set up a ParentVUE account. Any member of our office staff can help you set up this account if necessary. As with any report card, parents can call the school and request a paper report card be sent to them at 232-5615.

Student Drop-off Update
Thank you to everyone who has been patient with new student drop-off procedures in the morning. The system works very well and flows fairly smoothly when all cars follow the process by dropping students off in the fire line south of the auto body shop. Please make sure you are not dropping students off in front of the auto body shop, as this holds up traffic. Also, if you can encourage your student to have his/her school supplies ready to go and say your goodbyes prior to pulling over to let him/her out, this will make the drop-off process faster and easier.
Another adjustment that will be implemented starting November 25th will be that our school busses are going to try dropping our students off in the lot off of 5th street instead of on Arcadia. We are going to do a trial run of this procedure and if successful, we may be able to turn the bus drop-off area on Arcadia into a student drop-off/pick-up zone, as well. If all goes well, this will offer cars safe options to further expedite the process. We will give you advance notice when it is safe to begin dropping students off in the school bus lane off of Arcadia. However, that will most likely not occur until after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Our administrative staff is dedicated to finding solutions to ensure our families have reasonable options to help them avoid receiving traffic citations from police officers, who have been patrolling the area regularly.
Thank you for your patience as we work to find a solution that works well for the greater good of everyone in the Rincon community.
Semester Progress Reports
Student progress reports will be mailed out this week. Keep an eye on the mail for your student’s grade update. IT IS CRUNCH TIME…THERE ARE 20 DAYS OF SCHOOL LEFT THIS SEMESTER BEFORE FINAL EXAMS. It is hard to believe this semester has flown by so quickly. With only a five weeks left before final semester grades are issued, it is extremely important that your child attend conference period and/or after school sessions with their teachers to ensure all work is handed-in, tests and quizzes are made-up, and to get the last bit of help they need to finish the semester strong.

Traffic During Drop-off/Pick-up: New Drop-off Route On Campus Starting Tuesday Morning
As we are all aware, law enforcement has increased their morning patrol around Rincon in an attempt to keep the traffic safer and running more smoothly. Police are enforcing the do not park signs by giving out tickets that result in $86 fines for pulling over to drop off/pick up students in these areas. In an attempt to help with the situation, RUHS administration is making some changes that will take affect starting Tuesday, November 12th. Starting Tuesday, the only pedestrian gate that will be open on 5th Street will be the one right next to the Staff Parking lot near the intersection on 5th and Swan. We encourage all parents to utilize the new, extended drop off loop ON CAMPUS to drop students off. The new drop off loop will start at the guard shack on Arcadia and will be ENTER ONLY. The loop will then follow around the first loop of the administrative parking lot, curve around near the auto shop bays, turn down toward the fire lane, then exit at the EXIT ONLY gate on 8th Street. We ask that cars not stop to let students out until they are in the fire lane area. This will again, help traffic from backing up, in an attempt to keep the traffic flow moving steadily.
In an attempt to keep our students safer and help parents avoid being pulled over for illegal stops, we would like to try out this new system for the remainder of the semester.
Thank you, in advance, for your patience and support as we put this new system into place. Due to the number of increased late arrivals we have been seeing lately prior to this new system being put into place, it is recommended that you leave five minutes earlier in the morning to anticipate some backups as everyone adjusts to the new drop-off routine.
We appreciate your cooperation! (see attached maps for further clarification on the routes and pedestrian entrances) Please remind students that they are NOT allowed to walk through the guard shack gate. This will be a gate utilized for traffic only. We want to keep them safe and keep traffic flowing smoothly.
Please also remind your student that Rincon is a closed campus. Students who leave campus after they have arrived without a parent release cleared with the attendance office are subject to discipline consequences related to ditching and truancy. These rules apply to conference periods on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well.

-REMINDER--During lunches the RUHS Library is to be used for academic purposes only. Huge groups of students wandering around or gathering at one table is NOT allowed.
Traffic and Morning Gates: As you are aware, there are a lot of traffic issues around our school especially during student drop off in the morning. In an attempt to try to help this issue, as well as to improve safety on our campus, starting the Tuesday after the three day weekend we are going to limit the number of student gates that are open in the mornings. We will be sending out detailed maps to show you which gates will be closed. This will require many of us to slightly adjust our footpath routines in the morning, but we are hoping the trade-off will be increased security of who is coming onto our campus (as well as leaving after they’ve arrived) and help reduce some of the traffic issues in the morning.
Closed Campus Reminder: RUHS is a closed campus. Once students arrive in the morning, they are not allowed unless a parent has called in to excuse the student. This includes students who arrive on campus during conference time, then attempt to leave before school officially begins.
Planning Ahead: November 11th NO SCHOOL…this means Tuesday, November 12th, school will start at 8:00 a.m. with no conference period. We will not have block schedule days on weeks when we have a holiday on a Monday.
