Mission

My mission at African American Student Services is to provide comprehensive support to families looking to participate in any - and all - Advanced Learning Experiences available in TUSD through parent empowerment, student advocacy, and developing equitable access to programs.

ALE Overview

Advanced Learning Experiences LogoAdvanced Learning Experiences are available across the district for students of all ages. ALE programs promote student achievement and self-confidence, providing success skills for graduation and post-graduation.

There programs are:

  • Gifted and Talented Education
    Gifted and Talented EducationAvailable for grades K-8 at every TUSD elementary and middle school, with additional self-contained programs at some schools. Gifted and Talented Education promotes critical thinking and creative problem solving. Some GATE programs require testing to participate; others are open to all students.
  • International Baccalaureate
    International BaccalaureateAvailable for grades 11-12 at Cholla High School (Prep Programme grades 9-10). The International Baccalaureate program encourages global perspective, compassion, and life-long learning.
  • University High School
    University High SchoolAvailable for grades 9-12 at University High School. UHS focuses on preparing students for all aspects of college and post graduate success. UHS admissions requires testing and an application for the first step to attendance. See the UHS Admissions page for more information.
  • AVID
    Advancement Via Individual DeterminationAvailable for grades K-12 at select TUSD Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. AVID teaches students self-advocacy and career planning. AVID provides support for ALE enrollment and participation.
