To TUSD employees:

As you are aware, Governor Ducey has updated the Stay at Home order to allow Phase 1 opening of businesses starting on Saturday May 16th. At this time, Tucson Unified will remain status quo, working remotely where possible, until all social distancing and safety protocols have been determined. If you are currently working remotely, please do not return to your regular Tucson Unified work location until further notice.

Also please remember when you are around others, TUSD employees are required to wear face coverings to help protect everyone in our community.

Letter to Employees: Face Masks and Other Prevention Measures


Dear TUSD Employees:

The safety of our Tucson Unified community is the highest priority. There are specific recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and the Pima County Health Department to protect yourself and others.

As a public agency and performing many critical functions visible and in contact with our co-workers and the community, TUSD employees have a responsibility to those with whom we come into contact to model and follow the recommendations form the public health experts. Among these recommendations is wearing a face covering when in public and around others. As the Pima County Health Department says, "act like you got it."

Employees are expected to wear a face covering anytime they are on duty in public and will be around others. If you do not have a face covering to use while in public around others, please contact the Health Services department at

According to the latest CDC recommendations, schools will ensure the following guidelines are enforced as programs begin to open on a limited basis.

Promote healthy hygiene practices - Phases 1-3

  • Teach and reinforce washing hands and covering coughs and sneezes among children and staff.
  • Teach and reinforce use of cloth face coverings among all staff.
  • Have adequate supplies to support healthy hygiene behaviors, including soap, hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol, tissues, and no-touch trash cans.
  • Post signs on how to stop the spread of COVID-19, properly wash hands, promote everyday protective measures, and properly wear a face covering.

Ensure social distancing - Phase 1 and 2

  • Ensure that student and staff groupings are as static as possible by having the same group of children stay with the same staff. Restrict mixing between groups.
  • Cancel all field trips, inter-group events, and extracurricular activities (Phase 1)
  • Limit gatherings, events, and extracurricular activities to those that can maintain social distancing, support proper hand hygiene, and restrict attendance of those from higher transmission areas.
  • Restrict nonessential visitors, volunteers, and activities involving other groups at the same time.
  • Space seating/desks to at least six feet apart.
  • Close communal use spaces such as dining halls and playgrounds if possible; otherwise stagger use and disinfect in between use.
  • If a cafeteria or group dining room is typically used, serve meals in classrooms instead. Serve individually plated meals and hold activities in separate classrooms.
  • Create social distance between children on school buses where possible.

Information for Staff Required to be On-Site

Dear TUSD Employee:

Governor Ducey's "Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected" Executive Order requires that "all individuals in the State of Arizona shall limit their time away from their place of residence." That is not a problem for many of us who are now working from home. However, there are also many TUSD employees whose duties cannot be done from home all, or even some, of the workday.

The Governor's Executive Order contains an exception for those conducting certain "essential activities." The Governor recognizes that, even though the schools are empty of students, you are still, in many ways, a lifeline to the students and families you serve, so he has designated public education to be an essential activity. This means that if your duties require you to be at a school site or office at all, or even occasionally when needed, you will not be in violation of the letter, or spirit, of the Governor's Executive Order.

While the Executive Order specifically states that, "no person shall be required to provide documentation or proof of their activities to justify their activities," we all have documentation with us anyway - our TUSD photo ID card. If your duties must take you away from your home and law enforcement happens to inquire, your TUSD ID card proves you are conducting an essential activity.

Getting Tech Support Remotely

The TS Service Desk is still available to help you with technology issues. However, in our new circumstances, we ask that teachers and staff working remotely follow the process below.
  1. Teachers/Staff Working Remotely: If you experience a technology issue and need help, please call your school and request that a Track-It work order be logged in for your issue.
  2. Schools (On-Site Staff): The staff person on site at your school who takes your call will create a new work order in Track-It. Be sure you provide a contact number to be included in the work order.
  3. TS Service Desk: A TS Service Desk staff member will contact the teacher or staff person directly to resolve the issue.

Please do not use an older version, as it does not have the same fields and information.
