Letter to Parents, July 1, 2020 (in PDF)
Beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, TUSD Fine and Performing Arts is pleased to offer our student musicians in grades 6-12 the Music at Home Academy. This program provides a unified online platform serving the entire district for our secondary instrumental and vocal music courses including Band, Choir, Orchestra, Jazz, Guitar, Piano and Mariachi.
Due to the current pandemic crisis, students may not be able to safely play wind instruments, or sing in large groups on campus until we receive the results of major scientific studies currently underway. There are many other aspects of becoming a musician that can be explored in on-campus courses while they perform at home.
To support this Academy, TUSD has purchased SmartMusic and Breezin' Thru Theory (online software subscriptions) for our music students in grades 6-12. Every secondary student enrolled in an oncampus music course will automatically be enrolled in Music at Home to complete their performance assignments.
Whether your student has selected "Classroom Learning" at our schools or "Remote Learning" from home, they will be able to participate in this enhanced, interactive music academy. (See www.tusd1.org/NextSteps2020 to learn more about the Classroom Learning and Remote Learning options offered in the 2020-2021 school year.) This will provide a consistent and unified approach which will allow our talented teachers to foster the music excellence for which TUSD is known. Students desperately need these activities during our crisis to provide continuity of instruction and emotional relief.
