If you are considering having your student attend school remotely for the fall, please make your selection in ParentVUE today.

In Brief

Your student will be enrolled in their current school and participate in the TUVA program.

About Tucson Unified Virtual Academy (TUVA)

In Tucson Unified School District, building an innovative community of learners using the latest technologies is important to us. We believe we will help develop a better world by bringing high-quality teachers with expertise in remote instruction together with students who prefer learning virtually from their homes.

Student working on his couch In our virtual academy, students learn remotely while still being a part of their school of choice. This enables students to join their grade peers from across Tucson in an online classroom with expert teachers and support staff to facilitate their academic success. And, students can still participate in the social aspects of their enrolled school, like sports, clubs, and school events.

Key Aspects of the Tucson Unified Virtual Academy

  • For students in Kindergarten through 12th grade that prefer a remote-learning environment and want the dedicated teacher and support staff interaction
  • Program support staff and counselor to provide guidance and answer questions.
  • All technology devices and software are free and are provided by Tucson Unified School District.
  • Students must attend their scheduled TUVA classes every regular school day.
  • If TUVA is not a good fit, then students can move back to their school’s in-person classroom. (see FAQ for details)

K-5th Grade Students

  • Experience real-time, direct teaching Monday-Friday just like being in-person.
  • Be assigned a teacher and class for the year.
  • Have online support tools to enhance their learning.
  • All students will follow an academic instructional schedule, classes are not self-paced.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Tucson Unified Virtual Academy K-12 program (TUVA).

What is TUVA?

Tucson Unified Virtual Academy is a new TUSD SY2021-22 program supporting students in Kindergarten through 12th grade that prefer a remote learning environment but want strong teacher interaction.

What grades can attend?

Kindergarten-5th grade

will experience real-time, direct teaching Monday-Friday just like being in-person. They will have a teacher and class for the year, will follow an academic instructional schedule, and will have online support tools to enhance their learning.

6-12th grade

students will have a certified subject teacher who will support each student using Apex Learning for coursework. These students will follow an academic instructional schedule Monday-Friday; classes are not self-paced. Students will have support staff and counselors to provide guidance and answer questions.

When does TUVA start?

We start August 5th for the 2021-2022 school year and follow the district calendar.

Are computers provided?

All technology devices and software are free and provided by Tucson Unified School District.

Where are they enrolled?

TUVA is a TUSD program.  Thus, each student remains enrolled at the TUSD school they registered for in ParentVUE.

Are clubs & sports available?

Yes, the TUVA students can participate in the after school programs at the school in which they are enrolled.

Is school every day?

Yes, in order to receive the educational skills needed and meet the Arizona Department of Education attendance hours, students must attend their scheduled TUVA instructional classes every regular school day (Monday – Friday).

Are there fees?

No fees are required. This is a program within Tucson Unified School District, which is a public school district.

Can we change to in-person?

Yes, Students can move back to in-person learning at the school they are enrolled. 

For this year, The student can switch back to in-person learning at the 1st quarter Progress report date (September 1-3, 2021) , or at the end of each quarter thereafter.

How do I register for TUVA?

To register, log into your ParentVUE

account, select Online Registration (OLR), choose your school and then select “remote learning” for your child along with the grade they start in August. See the detailed instruction under “How do I register for Remote Learning" on the About Tucson Unified Virtual Academy.
