Information About the PCTA Test
in Tucson
WorkKeys PCTA
President Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001
on January 8, 2002. As part of this act, new requirements
were established for classified employees who provide classroom
support.
All classified employees in a classroom support classification,
whether they hold a temporary or benefit-eligible position,
must meet the new requirements.
If a classified new hire or current employee will be working
in a classroom support classification, they must meet the
following requirements:
If hired on or after January 8, 2002, employees
must present the following documents to Human Resources:
- Associate's Degree or higher or;
- Sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited institution
and high school diploma or GED; or
- Take and pass an Arizona Department of Education-approved
Academic Assessment Test
If hired before January 8, 2002, employees
must present the following documents to Human Resources:
- High School Diploma or GED and
- by May 24, 2006, they must acquire the additional requirements
of:
- Associate's Degree or higher or;
- Sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited institution
or;
- Take and pass an Arizona Department of Education-approved

Approved Academic Assessment Tests
The following assessment can be taken to meet the assessment
requirement:
- WorkKeys PCTA--Proficiency Certificate
for Teacher Assistants (and other classroom support staff)
Offered through ACT and
TUSD at the Rogers Elementary School computer lab and on
site, this assessment consists of computer-based testing
and on-the-job observation for teacher assistants and other
classroom support staff. For more information, including
