Borton Students Attend Diabetes Family Camp
At Borton Elementary, 5th grader Aurora and 6th grader Ryan attended a juvenile diabetes family camp in Prescott over spring break, thanks to their school nurses and community support.Aurora had a great time on her first trip. “It was fun,” she said. Her favorite activity was painting rocks with designs like a cactus and a ladybug. She got to go with her parents and shared a simple message to those who helped, “Thank you!”
Ryan wasn’t sure about going at first. “I was excited, but I really didn’t want to go,” he said. That quickly changed once he got there. “The camp was fun, and they had a lot of support. They taught you a lot about your diabetes, and there were a ton of activities.” He especially enjoyed rock wall climbing and ziplining. “Thank you very much for sending me there. I enjoyed it!”The trip was made possible by Borton nurses Melissa and Raymond, along with support from the community, including Andrew and Alysha Soto of TCR 2, a vehicle maintenance and customization shop here in Tucson. “What Ray’s doing is a very good thing, and we’re just glad to help out,” Andrew said.
What started as an idea turned into a great experience for both students and their families!
