Dunham Elementary emphasizes collaboration, research-based instruction and achievement. Students keep math and science journals and help each other with their writing skills. Each class tends to a section of the Dunham garden, where tomatoes, lettuce, squash and flowers grow.

After growing up in Phoenix, Mrs. Chandler came to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona and never left. Mrs. Chandler has been an educator for 22 years. She is currently in her fourth year as the principal at Dunham Elementary School. Prior to working at Dunham, she has served as a principal and assistant principal in Sierra Vista, a Learning Supports Coordinator in TUSD, as well as having been a teacher for 13 years in the Amphitheater School District. She has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, a Master of Arts in Teaching and Teacher Education, and a Master of Arts in Administration and Supervision.

Mrs. Chandler lives in Vail with her husband, Matthew, who is also a TUSD educator. They have two daughters. Abby is currently in middle school and frequently plays in golf tournaments around Southern Arizona, plays volleyball, and participates in ballet. Claire is a 3rd generation Wildcat at the University of Arizona who is majoring in engineering and is completing an internship at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Chandler family is rounded out by their two dogs, Butters and Nutmeg. In their spare time, the Chandlers like to go to the dog park, play golf, travel to National Parks, visit Disneyland, and sit near the ocean anywhere a beach is available.
