Alice Vail uses project-based, technology-infused lessons to engage students in the curriculum. We offer a strong selection of performing arts classes, including band and orchestra.

About a third of Vail’s students attend self-contained Gifted and Talented Education classes. The school has accelerated courses at every grade level in language arts and math.

  • Dismissal Procedures for school year 2019-2020
As we have continued to grow each year, we find that we must organize our dismissal of students a bit differently in order to keep everyone safe and out of the busy traffic around our school. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT FOLLOW THESE PROCEDURES WILL HAVE DISCIPLINARY CONSEQUENCES.

    • All students who ride a bus will report the Cafeteria at dismissal.
    • Students will leave the main building through the breezeway in the middle of the building and go to the Cafeteria where they will enter from the patio.
    • Students are expected to be in the Cafeteria within 4 minutes of dismissal.

    • STUDENTS ARE TO CROSS BEVERLY STREET WITH ONE OF THE ADULTS IN A YELLOW VEST. We have too many students who cross Beverly unsafely and too many cars that drive too fast.
    • Parents should line up on both sides of Beverly St and down 18th Street along the park and move forward as they are able to do so to meet their student.
    • Parents may park along the adjacent park road (18th Street) to meet their students.
    • Students may NOT wait in the park for their ride. Students are expected to wait along the fence of the school for all rides.

    • Students will exit the building through the doors nearest the Library and move out the blue gate.
    • Students will move along the sidewalk to 16th Street, then turn left or right to make their way home.
    • Students MUST walk their bikes, scooters, or skateboards until they reach the corner of the school bus driveway and 16th Street. Then, they can mount their transportation and make their way home.
    • Students MUST stay out of the bus driveway. Private vehicles are also prohibited from using this driveway as a turn-around area or thoroughfare and risk being ticketed by TUSD School Safety and/or Tucson Police Department personnel.
    • Parents are to pick up their student using the valet system established on Beverly St at the parent pick-up location, not in front of the school.

Alice Vail Middle School has reached almost 800 students, who are all dismissing at the same time of the day and excited to be going home. These systems are necessary to ensure the safety of all of these students, and the adults who are supervising them at this very hectic time of the day.

Please support us by following directions of adults on campus and following these systems. We are making adjustments daily at this time of year to ensure a smooth dismissal process for everyone.
