How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

Literacy Objectives: Students will be able to:

  • identify the main idea and details of a nonfiction text.
  • draw about the important fact and write a caption to give more information.
  • replace the nouns in a sentence with the correct pronouns. (I, we, he, she they, it)
  • use pictures and words to help me understand what my vocabulary words mean.

Listening and Speaking

Video: Click hereto watch the YouTube video, How Animals Grow and Change.

Songs: Sing along to the song, Change and Grow. Click on the bottom part of the Disk for the music.

Now, go back to the concept map you made last week and write or draw some new ideas in the blank circles about how animals change. If you don’t have room, use the back of your sheet. Think about what you saw in the video

Reading

A Science article give facts and information to explain things in the real world. A fact is something that is true.

Read the non-fiction science article, Turtles: From Eggs to Ocean, by Mariana Fuentes, pages 235-239 in your student book. Click the speaker Icon to listen.

Go back and look at the photographs and read the captions next to them. A caption is a sentence that tells more about the photo.

Grammar

Pronouns take the place of a nouns. I, he, she, and we are used for people in place of a noun. They can be used for more than one person or thing. It is used for things.

Writing

After reading Turtles: From Egg to Ocean,

on a piece of paper draw a picture about anything your learned about sea turtles. Then, write a caption (a sentence or sentences) to give more information about your picture. Remember to begin all your sentences with a capital letter, leave spaces between words, and put a period at the end.
