Tucson Unified Recognized at An Evening to Empower(ED)

During a week set aside to recognize educators, three honorees from Tucson Unified were celebrated at An Evening to Empower(ED).

Hosted by the Metropolitan Education Commission (MEC) on May 9, coinciding with Teacher Appreciation Week, this event recognized the service of educators, students and community partners making a difference in education within Pima County.

An Evening to Empower(ED) was envisioned to continue the legacy of the Crystal Apple Awards, which recognized more than 150 honorees over 34 years. This was the first year since the pandemic that an in-person gathering was held to celebrate local educators.

Three honorees from TUSD were awarded: In addition, several students from Tucson Unified high schools were recognized as peer coaches – high school seniors trained to support their peers in transitioning to postsecondary options – and youth fellows – student leaders who transform youth perspectives into advocacy and policy.

Congratulations!
