How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

Literacy Objectives:  Students will be able to: 

  • identify the topic or main idea and key details from a story.
  • sort words into two groups (colors, 
  • shapes, foods) and explain my thinking. 
  • respond to a story by writing a at least two sentences to show how it connects to me. 
  • use a present tense action verb (ex. jump, jumps) correctly in a complete sentence. 

Reading 

Listen to and read The Carter Family, Episode 5: The Grocery Store.   

 

Listen to see what food the family needs and what food the family wants.  Then, complete the Wants and Needs Activity.  

Writing 

After reading The Grocery StoreGet a sheet of paper.  On one side draw a picture of a food you need. On the other side draw picture of a food you want.   

Then, under each picture write a sentence telling which food you need and which food you want. Use the sentence frames below to help. 

I need ________.                             I want ________. 

If you can write more, write about why you need and why you want the foods you chose. Add a sentence that describe each of the foods.   

Listening and Speaking 

Invite a family member to sing a song with you. 

Video: Click here to watch a video and listen to the song, We Have Needs. Then, tell someone what your learned. Say:  I learned that I need ___________ to survive.

Grammar 

Action verbs tell what someone or something does now. Use and s at the end of the verb 

 

Complete Practice Book 3.5.  Use the sentences below to help you tell about what the person does in the picture. Fill in the blank with the action verb.
