Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help you practice and master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another.

Learning Objectives: Students will be able to:?

  • analyze a text or video by determining an author’s point of view and purpose in order to create an argumentative essay on one of the topics.

Lesson 1: Read and take notes on “Life Isn’t Fair – Deal with It” by Mike Myatt and “The American Electoral Process” by Mike Kubic. Identify authors’ message, purpose, and evidence. Answer questions on Commonlit.
Lesson 2: Watch the videos provided and take notes as outlined above.
Lesson 3: Using either the theme of fairness or the American election process, begin crafting an argumentative essay completing all of the steps outlined under Argumentative Guided Essay week 1 on noredink. com

Using the texts and videos, identify authors’ points of view and purposes. Write an essay where you argue your opinion on fairness or the American election system. Cite evidence from the texts and videos to support your argument.
Using noredink Argumentative Guided Draft Essay plan to create a well-crafted argumentative essay, complete all steps for week 1.
If you would like to write your essay on a closely related topic, please get your instructor’s approval first.

Enrichment Activities
Keep a journal about your experiences with social distancing. Your journal should have at least four entries a week. Each entry should be at least one paragraph.


Requisite (adjective): necessary for the attainment of a specific aim or goal.
Mandate (noun) an official order or commission to do something.
Labyrinth (noun): something that is extremely complicated or difficult to understand; a maze.

Vehemently (adverb): with strong feelings; enthusiastically or forcefully.
