This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that you work on. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help you practice and master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another.

Week 1  March 30-April 3, 2020

Objectives: Students will be able to: 

Draw and cite evidence from these texts, personal experience, literature, art, or history to produce writing that analyzes and reflects on what success and happiness looks like in America.

Lessons:

Lesson 1: Read and annotate “Serving in Florida: Excerpt from Nickel and Dimed” and answer both multiple choice and short answer questions.

Lesson 2: Read and annotate “Excerpt from Democracy in America: Why Americans Are So Restless” and answer both multiple choice and short answer questions.

Lesson 3: Write a well-developed 2-3 paragraph essay analyzing the arguments presented within the two texts and relating them to the COVID-19 pandemic, yourself and/or the world today.

Writing:

Write a well-developed 2-3 paragraph essay analyzing the arguments presented within the two texts. Discuss the importance of success and happiness. How has success and happiness changed during the COVID-19 pandemic? How can you compare these texts to the COVID 19 pandemic that is occurring around the world, and how is it specifically impacting you, your friends, and your family’s happiness?  What might success and happiness look like in the future effected by COVID-19?  Write a 2-3 paragraph response, using appropriate spelling, grammar, and punctuation

 

Keep a journal about your experiences with social distancing. Your journal should have at least four entries a week. Each entry should be at least one paragraph.
