This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that you work on. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help you practice and master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another.

Weekly Packet

Learning Objectives:

Students will be able to:

  • analyze their beliefs regarding technology innovation in order to write a narrative based on their own belief.
  • understand how trade specialization works in different market structures

Lessons

Lesson 1: Read “Opposing Innovation” by Mike Kubic and answer questions on Common Lit.

Lesson 2: Read “On Various Kinds of Thinking” by James Harvey Robinson and answer questions on Common Lit.

Lesson 3: Create I believe statements: Make a list, or a web, of all the things you believe in. You may focus on culture, nationality, technology, membership in groups, uniqueness, values, etc. Try to create a list of 20-30 beliefs.

Writing

Using 2-3 of your I believe statements, write a persuasive essay, a short story, a poem, a song, a letter, a news article, or create a video or sway, explaining why you chose those I believe statements, why you believe them, and provide an example of a time in your life when your beliefs helped you face and conquer an obstacle.

Keep a journal about your experiences with social distancing. Your journal should have at least four entries a week. Each entry should be at least one paragraph.

Vocabulary

Belief (noun): an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists; something on accepts as true or real
Innovation (noun): a new method, idea, product, etc.
Dissent (verb): to hold or express opinions that are at variance with those previously, commonly, or officially expressed.
Adherent (noun): someone who supports a particular part, person, or set of ideas.
