This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that you work on. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help you practice and master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another.

Weekly Packet 

Learning ObjectivesStudents will be able to: 
Cite evidence from these texts, personal experience, literature, art, or history to analyze and reflect on how the passage of time and community influences can impact family relationships.

Correctly use gerunds as subjects and as objects in a sentence.

 

Lessons 
Lesson 1: Read “The Leap” and answer both multiple choice and short answer questions. 

Lesson 2: Read ’Help Him Up!’: A Witness’s Account of Panic on a Subway Platform” and answer both multiple choice and short answer questions.  

Writing 
In the “Discussion Question” section, explain how various factors influence family relationships. Cite evidence from the text, your own experience, and other literature, art, or history to support your claims.  

Keep a journal about your experiences with social distancing. Your journal should have at least three entries a week. Each entry should be at least one paragraph.

Watch prior to Reading and Answer the Discussion Question in your Journal

Watch either/both videos and compare the responses to traumatic events in the video to the responses in “Help Him Up!” 
The Bystander Effect 

Watch the video and reflect on your own actions/attitudes. Are you a bystander? Why or why not? How can you help stop the bystander effect?
