Key Vocabulary / Formulas/ Things to Remember

If bm=bn, then m=n

To solve an exponential equation by expressing each side as a power of the same base:

  • Rewrite the equation in the form:

  • Set

  • Solve for the variable.

Change of base formula:
logbA=log Alog b or
logbA=ln Aln b

To solve an exponential equation by using logarithms:

  • Isolate the exponential expression.
  • Take the common logarithm or natural logarithm of both sides of the equation.
  • Solve for the variable.
