Topic: Nutrient Cycles in Ecosystems
Objectives: Students will be able to:

  • describe how nutrients (water, carbon, and nitrogen) are recycled within ecosystems.
  • explain the role of humans and other organisms in the water, carbon and nitrogen cycles.
  • predict the effect of changes in one part of a nutrient cycle on other parts of the cycle.
  • make arguments from evidence about the impacts of human activities on nutrient cycles and ecosystems.

Biogeochemical cycle (nutrient cycle) - The ways in which an element or compound moves between living and nonliving forms and locations.
Nutrient – An element or compound that an organism needs to sustain life (ex: water, carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, etc.)
