This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that you work on. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help you practice and master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another.

Week 2    April 6th – 9th

 Math Objectives: Students will be able to: 
  • solve problems involving volume of prisms and cylinders

Popcorn Cylinder project: you need to design a cylinder that will hold the most popcorn. 

Where do you store toilet paper in your house?  Calculate the volume of that cabinet and determine the maximum number of rolls of toilet paper that it can hold. (Based on volume) Create a poster (physical or virtual) to show what you determined.

Key Vocabulary / Formulas/ Things to Remember

Area - the number of square units that fill a geometric figure 

Cylinder - A three dimensional solid with parallel circle bases and lateral surface is a rectangle. 

Height - The distance from one base of the solid to the other 
 Base - The geometric figure that distinguishes the prism or pyramid 

Prism - A polyhedron with two parallel bases and lateral surfaces that are rectangles or parallelograms
