How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that you work on. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help you practice and master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another.

World History - Week Two

9th/10th Grades World History

Week 2 April 6-April 10 

Weekly Packet

 Social Studies Objectives: Students will be able to:  
  • Define and use vocabulary related to the climate.  
  • Understand the historical impact of climate change.  
  • Analyze contemporary arguments about the climate and develop an argument expressing their own views on the issues.  

Lessons: 

Lesson 1: Students are encouraged to read and annotate the three articles in the “Newsela” box to the right.  

Lesson 2: Students are encouraged to watch the three videos in the “Videos” box to the right and take notes to organize their ideas.  

Lesson 3: Students are encouraged to complete the “Assessment” and/or “Independent Civic Action Project.”  

Independent Civic Action Project: 

After you have completed the assessment, you may consider submitting your opinion piece to the local newspaper.  

Enrichment Activities: 

How have these issues been addressed? This activity will provide students with the opportunity to explore some of the things that have been done to combat the negative effects of population growth and globalization, as well as give them the opportunity to form an opinion on their success. Click on “Open Resource”  

 Assessment: 

Students can write an opinion piece about the Green New Deal. Their opinion piece should incorporate the following:  

1. Their agreement, disagreement, or adjustments to the Green New Deal 

2. Their reasons and evidence for their beliefs on the Green New Deal 

3. A call, or request, for people to either start behaving in a certain way or continue acting in a certain way, based on their argument in this opinion piece (a “call to action”) 
 

Vocabulary

Climate Change: a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular from the mid 20th century onwards, attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide 

Globalization: the process by which businesses and/or other organizations develop international influence and/or operation 

Green New Deal: the Green New Deal (GND) is a proposed package of United States legislation that aims to address climate change and economic inequality 

Global Climate: global climate is a description of the climate of the planet, with all of the regional differences averaged
