How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

1. Fill up a bucket with water
2. Pick two objects from around the house (i.e. key and rubber ducky)
3. Decide if the items will sink or float
4. Place the items in the water.
5. Talk with an adult or write down: What do you see here? Can you explain why the item sank or floated? What questions do you have about sinking and floating? How does this relate to matter?

Think of things in your life that are solids, liquids, and gases. Construct a 3-flap book and label the flaps “Solid”, “Liquid”, and “Gas”. Under each flap record examples of these three states of matter in your life.

Matter: The stuff (atoms) things are made of.
Materia: Componente principal de todas las cosas. (átomos).
Atom: Tiny particles that make up matter.

States of Matter: The forms matter takes, depending on how the atoms are arranged. The most common states of matter on earth are liquid, solid, gas.
Estado de materia: Las formas que toma la materia, dependiendo de cómo se organicen los átomos. Los estados más comunes de la materia en la tierra son líquido, sólido, gas.
