How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

Science Objectives: Students will be able to:

  • group living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic) things and describe how they interact in their ecosystems.
  • plan and carry out investigations to demonstrate ways plants and animals react to stimuli.
  • construct an argument from evidence that organisms are interdependent.

Go outside and examine your ecosystem. Fold a piece of paper hotdog style. Label the two sides abiotic (nonliving) and biotic (living). See which side you can find the most.

ecosystem - the living and nonliving things in an environment.
ecosistema: un lugar de la naturaleza formado por un espacio determinado o concreto y los seres que lo habitan. se podría decir pues, que estos sistemas están formados por dos elementos principales, los organismos vivos (seres bióticos) y el espacio físico (seres abióticos).

biome - a community of plants and animals occupying a region
bioma: una comunidad de plantas y animales que ocupan una región en particular.

interact - when plants and animals affect one another or the environment to meet their needs
interacción: cuando las plantas y animales afecta uno al otro o al medioambiente para atender a sus necesidades.

habitat - the place where a population lives in an ecosystem

hábitat: el lugar en donde una populación viven entre un ecosistema.

abiotic - are non-living components of an ecosystem like the sun, water, soil, temperature, altitude, nutrients, ph and air. they influence the living components of an ecosystem.
abiótico: son aquellos factores que no son seres vivos, no poseen vida propia o son inertes.
