How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

Literacy Objectives: Students will be able to:

  • Understand new vocabulary words by explaining meaning of new words in the story.
  • Show understanding of present-tense action verbs by identifying the correct verb in sentences.
  • Share connections about wind power by speaking in complete sentences with a family member.

Reading

Follow the directions to log in to Reach and click on student book.

Watch the Build Background video to begin Unit 4.

Read or listen (click the speaker icon on each page) to the science article Wind at Work by Beth Geiger.

Writing

Write a paragraph about a very windy day. Use Key words and describing words to tell what it was like.

Think about the word power. Write a paragraph answering the prompt: what kind of power does water have?

Grammar

Read Present-Tense Action Verbs on page 245 of your Reach reading book.

Complete Practice Book page 4.3 (use a piece of paper if you do not have a printer).

Listening and Speaking Practice

Songs: Sing along to the song A Good Place for a Garden (click the speaker icon for the music).
