How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

Literacy Objectives:  Students will be able to:  

  • read “Extreme Earth” again and take the reading comprehension coach quiz. 
  • sing the song, “Please Tell Me” with a family member. 
  • watch a video on a volcano. Then, draw and label a volcano. 
  • learn prepositions, pronouns and types of sentences. 

Reading Practice 
Take a quiz on, “Extreme Earth” on pages 153-165.  
UNIT 3 > TYPE 180 in the top middle box of your online book > PRESS ENTER.  Be sure to click on the blue speaker buttons you see to hear the text read to you. 
How to take the quiz:  Click on the icon of the little mouse that you see along the top of your online story.  When you click there, look for the title “Extreme Earth” in the list that appears. There will be a number 3 by it. Click on the story’s title to take the quiz. Click on the red Q tiles to see the questions. 

Writing Practice  
Write About It! 
On a blank sheet of paper, draw and label a volcano.   
First, watch the video in the Listening and Speaking Practice part of this page.  
Find an internet diagram of the inside of a volcano.   
Draw the inside of the volcano and label all of its parts. 
Use orange, red and yellow colors to show the hot lava outside of the volcano and the hot magma inside of the volcano. 
Hang your project up for your family to teach your family about a volcano.

Watch the video on volcanos.  Listen for information you can use in your diagram of a volcano: 
Login to sing the song:  “Please Tell Me”,  Click on: RESOURCES > UNIT 3 > SING WITH ME > PLEASE TELL ME. 

Vocabulary and Phonics Practice

Login to play the game: Click on: GAMES > UNIT 3 > PHONICS GAMES > LONG O or any other games you see on your screen.
