How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

Literacy Objectives: Students will be able to:

  • identify cause and effect in the story Wind at Work by completing the Practice Book page.
  • show understanding of present-tense action verbs by identifying the correct verb in sentences.
  • show meaning of new vocabulary words by writing Key Words from the story in complete sentences.

Reading

Follow the directions to log in to Reach and click on student book. Re-read or listen (click the speaker icon on each page) to the science article Wind at Workby Beth Geiger.

Complete Practice Book page 4.7 on cause and effect when you are done (copy the page on a piece of paper if you do not have a printer).

Writing

Write a summary paragraph about the most interesting ideas you learned about from the story Wind at Work.

Write complete sentences using the new science vocabulary Key Words you learned:

convert electricity generate

power renewable scarce

Open the Practice Book to learn more about Present-Tense Action Verbs. Complete pages 4.5 and 4.11 (use a piece of paper if you do not have a printer).

Listening and Speaking Practice

Video: Watch the video Wind Power and share what you have learned with a family member.

Vocabulary and Phonics

Practice the Part 1 Vocabulary Key Words in your Reach reading book on pages217 and 219.
