How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

Please email or call your teacher.

Grades 4-5 Band and Orchestra - Weeks Six

Elementary Band & Orchestra Music Activities Board
Week 6 - 5-11 through 5-17

Developed by the TUSD Music Staff

Printable version of this Learning Board (in PDF)

Every week, the TUSD Fine and Performing Arts Department will share a new activity board for our at-home musicians. Make sure to share your music learning with your teacher and let them know if you would like more musical enrichment experiences!

Pick two or more activities to do! Share what you did with your teacher.

Music Theory

Play a name game with all the members of your family. Write down the first and last names of your family members. Then beside each name, write the rhythms of those names. Perform the name rhythms using clapping or stomping.

Guided Listening

If you could play any musical instrument, what would it be? Why did you pick that instrument? Listen to some recordings online of professionals performing on that instrument. Share your answers and the recordings with your teacher

Practice at Home

Practice a short portion of any music. After playing/singing it one time, try to improve something using practice ideas your teacher uses in class. Send a recording of your practice session to your teacher if you can and share what you tried to improve.

Movie Musicals

Disney animated movies like Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Frozen, and Lion King all use many songs. Watch a Disney movie and pay attention to the music. List 4 of the songs and write how they help tell the story in the movie.

With Your Family

An opera is drama set to music. Everything in an opera is sung rather than spoken. Pick an hour where everyone in your house can only sing-no talking! Share your favorite moments of your family opera with your teacher.

Music Around Us

Fill bottles or jars with various levels of water. What sounds can you make if you tap the bottles? Add more water? Take out water? Can you play a song? Record your performance and share with your teacher!

There are 5 different families of musical instruments -String, Brass, Woodwind, Percussion & Keyboard. Can you list 2 instruments in each family and what they have in common?

How many different voices can you make? (robot, baby, happy, excited, sleepy etc.) Sing “Mary Had a Little Lamb” in each of those voices and record yourself. Share with your teacher.
