How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

Learning Objectives: Students will be able to:

  • summarize the main idea and supporting details from text. (math, science, social studies).
  • distinguish between nouns that become plural by adding -s/-es and irregular plural nouns.
  • apply understanding of content vocabulary within math, science, and social studies texts.

Read the Phyto Power in book pages 209 - 213.

After reading Phyto Power, fill out the worksheet about an amazing fact you learned in Practice book page 3.18.
Read Why are Bees Special dialogue on book page 184.
Click on the MP3 on page 184 to listen to the dialogue.

Use a Tree Diagram in Practice Book p. 3.12 to keep track of the main idea and details for the dialogue. Reread and relisten to Why are Bees Special, as needed to fill out the tree diagram

Main Idea
After reading Phyto Power, talk to a friend or family member and tell them why phytoplankton are important.
Synthesize
Tell someone the size of a phytoplankton by comparing it is something.

Add these vocabulary words to My Vocabulary Notebook. Remember to write the part of speech (noun, verb, adjective, etc.) and the definition.
Write a short paragraph about photosynthesis using at least 3 of the vocabulary words in the chart above.

Writing
Use the chart in Practice Book 3.19 to compare genres—the science article, Phyto-Power, to the Expert Interview, Fish of the Future.
Topic: What is nature’s network? Write a paragraph about the importance of nature’s network. Include two details.
