How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

Key Vocabulary/Formulas

Expression & Equation- Expressions don’t have equal signs. Examples: 3, 4x, 5x + 2. Equations have equal signs. Examples: 3 = 4x, 4x = 5x + 2

Solution- The answer to a problem. Example: for 2x = 6, the answer is       x = 3.         *Some equations can have 1, no, or infinite solutions.

Variable- a letter that represents an unknown value, such as x or y

Constant- A quantity that doesn’t change, such as the numbers 2, -5,

  , and 4.27

Combining like terms- Examples: 3x + 7x combines into 10x,  4y – 9y combines into –5y,  3x + 7x + 4y – 9y –15 + 6 combines into 10x – 5y - 9

Distributive Property- Examples: 5(10x – 2) is 5(10x) + 5(-2), which becomes 50x – 10.  -2(3y + 5) is –2(3y) -2(5), which becomes –6y –10.
