How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that you work on. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help you practice and master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another.

English Language Arts (ELA) - Grade 9 - Week Two

ELA Grade 9

Week 2 April 6 – April 10, 2020

Objectives Students will be able to: 

cite evidence from these texts, personal experience, literature, art, or history to analyze and reflect on personal choices, culture, and community influences can impact family relationships. 


Lesson 1: Read “Help-Giving” and answer both multiple choice and short answer questions. Questions can be found to the right of the text on under “Assessment Questions” and “Discussion.”  

Lesson 2: Read “’Cultural Common Ground Gets Harder to Come By” and answer both multiple choice and short answer questions.   Questions can be found to the right of the text on under “Assessment Questions” and “Discussion.” 


In the “Discussion Question” section, develop arguments to explain how various factors influence family relationships. Cite evidence from the text, your own experience, and other literature, art, or history to support your claims.  Questions can be found to the right of the text on under “Assessment Questions” and “Discussion.” 

Keep a journal about your experiences with social distancing. Your journal should have at least three entries a week. Each entry should be at least one paragraph. 

Enrichment Activities 

Watch the video and reflect on how being a good listener can help connect people and build strong family relationships and community.  

Watch the video and write a journal entry that discusses the impact our help can have on others. Your response should also answer what you learned from Lindsey’s experience and your thoughts on the message she wants to pass on to others.  

Watch the video before reading “Cultural Common Ground” and reflect on cultural changes shown. Then after reading the article, compare the changes shown in the video to the changes described in the text.
