How to Use This Page

This page contains a "menu" of lessons and activities for this week's learning at home. You will find the objectives: the specific skills that your child will be able to do. Then you will find a selection of lessons and activities which help your child master those skills. If you run into technical issues or other difficulties with any of these, simply move on and choose another. These activities fit into the Sample Dailly Schedule.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Your child DOES NOT have to complete all activities listed for each subject.
  • Activities have been identified to give your child choice and variety.
  • Your child's teacher may suggest other activities more appropriate for your child.

Social Studies Objectives: Students will be able to:

  • make and use simple maps and illustrations to identify and represent a location.
  • learn and use vocabulary specific to understanding locations.
  • explore locations in both fictional and informational text shared.

National Geographic Map Skills
This is a site that shows students how to make maps of different places (school, park, classroom). Select one of the places and look at how the kids created their maps. Think of a place you visit frequently; it could be your bedroom, your backyard or your classroom. Try to replicate that special place on piece of paper, label it, and explain what you did to a family member. Challenge: ad a map key to your work!

Play the games, follow the directions as you move through each section on the maps.

Offline Activities
Do you have a favorite place that you like to visit? On a piece of paper draw this place, add lots of details and see if another family member can guess your favorite place just from looking at your map.

Take a walk with a family member. Draw a map of the path you took. Add details of what you saw on the path.
