Welcome Back Dear Carrillo Families,
It is with great honor I welcome you to the new school year 2019/2020! With the beginning of my seventh school year as principal of Carrillo K-5 Magnet School, I am excited, energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of your children. It is our belief that creating a strong bond between school and home makes all the difference in children’s academic success. In continuing with the tradition of Carrillo’s excellence in educating all students, we will set high academic expectations with built-in support systems while including a strong Magnet focus in the areas of Communication and the Arts. By addressing school culture, setting high standards for teacher performance, increasing academic expectations for all students and engaging the community, it is our goal at Carrillo K-5 Magnet School that all Carrillo Cougars are prepared to meet and exceed the challenges of the future.
Together we have seen many accomplishments over the years, including consistently scoring at or above the state average on the AZ Merit standardized test, and earning the distinctive A+ School of Excellence label from the Arizona Educational Foundation for the second consecutive award cycle. Last year we also earned the Magnet Schools of American Award of Excellence, and our very own Miriam Romero was the EL Teacher of the Year for the state of Arizona. We know that this success only comes with the hard work and dedication of the Carrillo community, including teachers, parents and students. It is my plan, as new opportunities arise, that we can continue to provide evidence that merits excellence in all that we do.
Carrillo is a unique school with a rich history embracing long-lasting traditions. We are looking forward to working together with you to carry on these traditions and find new opportunities to create new ones. Being a Ben’s Bells Kindness campus, and to promote fairness, empathy and positive social well-being, we will continue to utilize our Positive Behavior Intervention Program (PBIS), Restorative Practices, and Healthy Play program. I invite you to learn more about these programs by contacting me or other staff members, or read about them in the Carrillo Student-Parent Handbook that will be issued at the beginning of the school year.
If you would like to contact me, my e-mail address is Lori.Conner@tusd1.org. You can also reach me by phone @ Carrillo K-5 Magnet School, (520)225-1200.
I am looking forward to working with you and your children as we work toward an academically successful school year. Go Cougars!
Lori Conner, Principal
