High School Health Course
Question 1: How do the different dimensions of health—mental, emotional, physical, and social—interact to influence our overall well-being, and how do influences play a role in shaping my health behaviors?
Question 2: How can making informed choices about nutrition, physical activity, drug and alcohol use, and ways to advocate for us improve our health and well-being?
In Quarter 1, we lay a strong foundation for our journey in health education by exploring the multiple dimensions of health and wellness. Together, we learn about the importance of achieving mental, emotional, physical, and social health, and how these areas are interconnected.
We discuss how various influences, such as family, culture, and peers, can impact our health decisions. As we build essential health skills, we practice effective communication strategies that enhance our relationships and help us manage conflicts and stress. We also practice our conflict resolution skills and ways to avoid conflict and violence.
Additionally, we focus on setting personal health goals and understanding the significance of nutrition and physical activity in our daily lives. By the end of this quarter, we feel empowered to take charge of our health and support each other in making positive choices!

In Quarter 2, we dive deeper into understanding personal health and the importance of healthy relationships. Together, we explore how our choices about nutrition, physical activity, and safety can impact our wellbeing. This quarter we have the opportunity to participate in the Opt-In Family Life Curriculum or receive the Alternative Family Life Curriculum. The Family Life Curriculum includes topics of communication, choices, decision making, changes during adolescence, age-appropriate anatomy, and physiology of the reproductive system. Alternative Family Life Curriculum includes topics of social emotional wellbeing, healthy habits, hygiene, self-esteem, and self-advocacy.
We learn our incredibly body systems that include Skeletal, Muscular and Nervous Systems, Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Digestive Systems. We also learn about the effects of drugs and alcohol and discuss ways to make smart decisions that keep us safe and prevent illness or injury. Additionally, we practice important skills for effective communication and conflict resolution, which help us build stronger connections with our friends and family. We feel more confident in advocating for our health and supporting each other in making positive choices that lead to a happier, healthier life!

We are here to equip, inspire and enrich the strengths of all learners with relevant educational experiences for lifelong learning.
