7th Grade Social Studies Course
How is the story of today's world shaped by the history of global events, interactions, and cultural movements?
The stage is set as we meet the brilliant minds of the Scientific Revolution who challenge the very basics of human knowledge. As the story unfolds, we explore the excitement of the Enlightenment, where philosophers show us the importance of reason and inquiry. Their thoughts inspire generations of people and revolutionary movements around the world. We discover the motivations and outcomes of these movements—like the American, French, and Haitian Revolutions—where oppressed people rise up against unfair rule, seeking freedom and justice.

Our story takes a darker turn as we look at the effects of imperialism, colonialism, and slavery. We explore how these forces help expand empires, driven by the desire for wealth and power, often hurting others in the process. As we learn about the harsh realities of slavery and forced labor, we also discover the brave individuals and groups who stand up against these injustices. The plot thickens as we dive into the impact of industrialization, where new technologies and ideas change societies and economies, bringing both opportunities and challenges.

The chaos of battle, the weight of loss, and the moral dilemmas of war come into focus as we witness World War I. The aftermath of the Great War leads to a world where democracy becomes fragile, and the Great Depression destroys national economies. The stakes heighten with the rise of fascism and the start of World War II. We will examine the epic battles, the devastating legacy of the Holocaust, and how total war and catastrophes forever change people's lives.

We finish our story in the post-war world, where the United Nations is born and the Cold War becomes a battleground over ideas. Powerful movements of decolonization and social justice showcase the endless pursuit of human rights and equality. As we enter the modern world, ongoing conflicts and global issues—such as the Israeli-Palestinian struggle and the fight for Indigenous rights—remind us that history is not just tales of the past but a living story that shapes our futures.
