2025 M & O Override
Overview
This spring, the Tucson Unified Governing Board voted to order a special election for a 15% Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Override. TUSD has not had an override in more than 25 years and is the only major school district in Tucson without a voter-approved override.
If approved by voters, the override will generate more than $45 million in additional funding each year of the override. The override focus on people and will support all the following priorities:

Compensation

- Four-step increase for all teachers on TDR-A and Exceptional Education teacher salary schedules
- Proposed investment = $7.3 million
- Add a $250 supplemental increase for each step on the TDR-A & TDR-B salary schedules
- Proposed investment = $800,000
- A 4% salary increase to all other employee groups
- Proposed investment = $8.7 million
TOTAL INVESTMENT = $16.8 MILLION
Workforce Readiness through CTE

- Embedding 15 new Instructional Specialists in Automotive Technology, Welding Technology, Construction Technology, HVAC Program, Culinary Arts Programs, Stagecraft Program, and Precision Machining
- PROPOSED INVESTMENT = $670,000
- System Integration Specialist focused on technology implementation in CTE programs
- PROPOSED INVESTMENT = $78,000
- Four Career Coaches to navigate post-high school career paths
- PROPOSED INVESTMENT = $312,000

Investing in Student's Well-Being

- Fund all current school counselors from the override
- Proposed Investment = $6.8 million
- Decreases the school counselor ratio from 500:1 to 400:1
- Proposed Investment = $1.6 million
- Provides social workers at all high schools with a ratio of 500:1
- Proposed Investment = $1.5 million
- Adds a full time PE teachers at 1 for every 500 students for all elementary and K-8 schools and part time positions for all remaining schools (-500)
- Proposed Investment = $3 million
TOTAL INVESTMENT: $12.9 MILLION
Empowering the Next Generation of Alumni

- Adding 5, new full-day Pre-K classrooms and providing a $2,000 instructional supply budget for all Pre-K teachers

Nurturing Success

- Investment in expanding access to Reading and Math Interventionists at all schools without these positions
- Proposed investment = $6.6 million
- Maintain and expand Fine Arts to 14 additional schools
- Proposed investment: $4.6 million

Cultivating Future Achievements
- Credit Recovery Expansion in high schools
- Proposed Investment = $900,000
- Focusing on student attendance in all schools through a $2,000 stipend for attendance liaison efforts
