Mission View Centenario Celebration

100 years of dreamers and achievers! Mission View Elementary School recognized its centennial anniversary with a Centenario Celebration on March 10, 2023. Students, staff and families enjoyed special performances, took a step back in time through historic photos and celebrated what makes Mission View unique.

Mission View opened in 1923, and was originally constructed as a two-room school at a cost of $8,200. The school was named for its view of San Xavier Mission. Miss Irene Erickson, an early teacher and later principal at the school, is credited with originating the teaching of Spanish at Mission View. In the 1960s, Mission View Elementary was home to a Title VII federally-funded bilingual education program, and today offers students the opportunity to participate in the Two-Way Dual Language (TWDL) program.
