Tucson Unified School District’s Communications & Media Relations Department is responsible for all media requests and for providing information to the public. The department also handles internal and external communications.

Deadline: When you are requesting information, please include your deadline, so we can work to meet that. If possible, we would like to have at least 24 hours notice on a request for information, but we understand that with breaking news, that is not always possible.
Who to Contact: Send routine requests by emailing Media or call 520-225-6101.
FOIA: For a Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA), please use the Request Public Documents form and email to Public Records.
Coverage Requests: If you would like to cover an event or interview principals or teachers, please email Media to cover district events in advance.
Education Research: If you are interested in conducting research in Tucson Unified School District, please contact our Assessment and Program Evaluation Department.
Media and Children: The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) dictates how the District handles certain information about children. All children who are photographed or filmed on school property must have parental permission on file. Please contact the Communications Department ahead of time to ensure the children you wish to film or interview are cleared.

Tucson Unified School District Social Media Community Standards SY2026-27
The Tucson Unified School District’s official social media accounts (Facebook, Facebook Spanish, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn) are administered and monitored by the Communication Department[NG1] . Individual schools and our athletic program also maintain accounts across these channels.
Our social media pages are where we share the stories and celebrate the accomplishments of our Tucson Unified students and staff. We welcome the opportunity for our parents and stakeholders to engage with us on our pages. However, we expect civility and common sense in all comments.
Moderation & Management
The administrators of any and all Tucson Unified accounts reserve the right to hide or remove comments, replies, or other content and interactions that they deem in violation of the Social Media Community Standards or in violation of the social media platform’s standards. Please reference each platform’s standards as follows: Facebook Community Standards; Instagram Policies; X Rules/Policies; YouTube Community Guidelines. The administrators may also take action to report, block, or ban users from any and all social media platforms for repeated violations of these standards.
Community Guidelines
Individuals who comment on the [School or District Name] social media platforms (or any platforms owned or managed by schools, clubs, or groups within the [school or district]) are expected to abide by the following Community Guidelines:
We will promptly hide or remove comments deemed:
- Defamatory, bullying, or discriminatory against the District's students and is likely to create a disruptive educational environment.
- Defamatory, harassing, discriminatory, or retaliatory against the District's employees and is likely to create a hostile work environment.
- False, defamatory, or personal attacks or accusations.
- Misrepresentation of the poster’s identity.
- Political campaigning, commercial solicitations, or promotions of products or services of any third party (unless approved in advance by district administrators).
- Hate speech or speech that is obscene, harassing, baiting, intimidating, threatening, or inciting violence.
- To be advocacy directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action.
- Identifying or targeting staff and/or students in a negative or abusive way.
- In violation of copyright and fair use laws.
- Profane, sexually, explicit or suggestive.
- Harassment on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or age.
- Violating others’ privacy rights or confidentiality.
- Unrelated to the topic or to the Tucson Unified community.
- Repetitive or spam.

Tucson Unified does not endorse, support, sanction, encourage, verify, or agree with comments, opinions, or statements posted by individuals not authorized to speak on behalf of the district. Any information or material placed online, including advice and opinions, are the views and responsibility of those making the comments and do not represent the views or philosophies of Tucson Unified.
Oversight and Contact Information
Social Media should not be used to make a formal complaint against the district, its employees, or its students. All comments related to district business are considered public records subject to disclosure upon request. If there is an issue you would like addressed, please email the Communications Department at [email protected].
Our social media accounts are not monitored 24/7. We update and monitor social media channels intermittently throughout the day between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. If you are a student in crisis or have an emergency, please call 911. Tucson Unified does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its programs and activities.

Distribution/Display of Promotional Materials from Outside Organizations
Follow these guidelines for your non-profit organization for distribution at TUSD schools.
- Include this disclaimer on your flyer (8.5x11) font size should be no smaller than the smallest size font on flyer.
- The Tucson Unified School District neither endorses nor sponsors the organization or activity represented in this material. The distribution or display of this material is provided as a community service.
- El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Tucsón no respalda ni promueve la organización o actividad representada en este material. La distribución o contenido de este material es proporcionado como un servicio comunitario.
- Include an email or phone number on the flyer for parent contact if they have questions.
- If there is an application that needs to be submitted, include the website link or address and zip code on the flyer and the application. Parents will send the application to the organization.
- Submit your flyer via email. Please give 2 business days for a response to your request for approval.
- Upon meeting requirements, you will receive an email to confirm approval. Use this as confirmation of approval.
- The organization will distribute the flyer to the appropriate TUSD schools so share with their community. TUSD typically does not share community flyers.
Directory Information
The District may disclose information that is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if the primary purpose is to allow the District to include this type of information in certain school publications, such as yearbooks, newsletters, playbills, team rosters, or honor rolls. Directory information includes the following:
- Name
- Address
- Telephone listing
- Email address
- Grade level
- Date and place of birth
- Major field of study
- Enrollment status
- Dates of attendance
- Participation in officially recognized activities and sports
- Weight and height if a member of an athletic team
- Most recently attended educational institution
- Option 1) DO NOT RELEASE MY CHILD'S DIRECTORY INFORMATION. By selecting this option, I understand that my child's name and/or image will not be included in the yearbook, newsletters, programs, and other school and district publications.
- Option 2) DO NOT RELEASE MY CHILD'S DIRECTORY INFORMATION FOR NON TUSD PURPOSES. By selecting this option, I understand that my child's name and/or image will not be released to the press or the general public, or to third parties such as universities and colleges, employers and military recruiters.
District and News Media
Your child may be interviewed, photographed, or audio‐ or video‐recorded by the news media or district staff for print, radio, television, Internet content or any other medium, unless you direct otherwise.
- Option 3) The DISTRICT Opt-Out: By selecting Option 3, I understand that THE DISTRICT cannot interview, photograph, or audio- or video-record my child for any purpose.
- Option 4) The NEWS MEDIA Opt-Out: By selecting Option 4, I understand that The NEWS MEDIA cannot interview, photograph, or audio‐ or video‐record my child for any purpose.
