Davis Bilingual Elementary Magnet School Celebrates César Chávez Day

The sounds of musical instruments and young voices echoed through the streets of Barrio Anita, as students and staff from Davis Bilingual Elementary Magnet School celebrated César Chávez Day on March 31.

César Chávez Day is a federal commemorative holiday honoring the life and legacy of César Chávez, a native Arizonan and civil rights activist. He co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (later the United Farm Workers union) with Dolores Huerta to deliver safer working conditions and better pay to farm workers.

Davis students and staff celebrate each year with a march through the neighborhood around the school. Davis' strong dual language and Mariachi ties play a special role in the festivities.
