Notable African American Figures from Our Schools: Katelyn Kubly

Katelyn Kubly

Katelyn Kubly graduated from Sahuaro High School in May of 2018. That year she was a recipient of the Legacy of Excellence Scholarship. After graduating, Katelyn attended Arizona State University (ASU) and was also in the Honors College.

During her time at ASU, Katelyn held numerous leadership positions in several student organizations while also working multiple part-time jobs to pay for expenses not covered by her scholarships. She also participated in a number internships, some of which included externing with the Hon. David B. Gass at the Arizona Division 1 Court of Appeals and serving as an AmeriCorps member in the Law Library Resource Center at the Maricopa County Superior Court. Additionally, she completed a thesis conducting a nationwide survey that assessed public perceptions of life without parole for juvenile offenders.

In 2022, Katelyn became the first person in her family to graduate from college, receiving Summa Cum Laude honors for her 4.0 GPA. Since then she has worked as a legal assistant while also studying for the LSAT. She will be taking the test for the final time this April and will be applying to law school in the fall.
