The Sabino Sabercats football team (11-3) captured the 3A state championship with their 68-46 victory over Paradise Honors at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix on November 25.
Sabino's Ryan McBrayer joins 36 other head coaches who have won a state championship in Southern Arizona high school football history dating to 1960. Of the 36 coaches, 20 are from Tucson, including McBrayer. The most recent was Troy Copp at Pusch Ridge in 2015.
McBrayer, in his seventh season as head coach at his alma mater, won a championship on his first attempt.
