Interscholastics are an integral and valued part of the Tucson Unified School District. Our performing arts and athletics teams are some of the best that Southern Arizona has to offer and are available to all interested students in our district.
- Sign Up Through the Athlete Portal (ATS)
Students must sign up each year in the portal to participate in sports or competitive fine arts. The Athletic Trainer System (ATS) follows all our students' involvement in extracurricular activities.
- Get a Physical
Each year students must submit physical examination forms, per the bylaws of the AIA (Arizona Interscholastics Association). Only physicals dated March 1st or more recent are valid for the upcoming school year. For more info, please visit About Us > Physical Exam tab.
- Fill Out Forms
Each grade may have different requirements for participation. Visit Forms for a list for your student's grade.
- Pay the Fees
Participation fees may be required for an activity; however, there are scholarships and other fee assistance options based on need.
If you need help covering fees, apply at the Education Enrichment Foundation's Program – Interscholastic Participation Fee Assistance

Requirement
Physical examinations are required for participation in interscholastics by the bylaws of the Arizona Interscholastics Association. Bylaw 15.7.1 states that:
"A student shall not be allowed to practice or compete in interscholastic athletics until there is on file with the principal or his/her designee a record of a physical examination performed by a doctor of medicine (M.D.), osteopathic physician (D.O.) or certified registered nurse practitioner (N.P.) licensed to practice, or a certified physician's assistant (PA-C) registered by the Joint Board Of Medical Examiners and the Osteopathic Examiners in Medicine and Surgery. The physical examination for the following school year shall be given on or after March 1. The physical examination card on file shall be signed by one of the aforementioned medical providers and shall state that, in the opinion of the examining provider, the provider did not find any medical reason to disqualify the student from practice or competition in athletic contests. The principal or his/her designee, if deemed advisable, may require a student to be reexamined. Member schools shall utilize the physical examination forms provided by the AIA. There shall be two parts: Annual Physical Examination form and Annual Preparticipation Physical Evaluation."
