Four Class of 2025 graduates from University High School have been awarded college-sponsored scholarships from the National Merit® Scholarship Corporation.

This program honors students who show exceptional academic ability in high school and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution funding the scholarship.

The four UHS students were selected from a pool of nearly 7,000 qualifying finalists:

  • Roy Samuel Cormode, National Merit University of Arizona Scholarship with a probable career field in Computer Science.
  • Debangshu Pramanik, National Merit University of Texas at Dallas Scholarship with a probable career field in Computer Science.
  • Abigail Stadheim, National Merit University of Oregon Scholarship with a probable career field in Urban/City Planning.
  • Crisanna Terrell, National Merit University of Texas at Dallas Scholarship with a probable career field in Mechanical Engineering (Robotics).
These students entered the National Merit Scholarship Program in the fall of 2023 when they took the Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) as an initial screen for entrants. To move onto the semifinalist round, they each submitted a scholarship application, which includes a written essay and information about their participation in extracurricular activities, awards and leadership positions within their school or community. Semifinalists are required to have an outstanding academic record and a recommendation from a high school official, as well as earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm their test performance qualification.

Congratulations to Roy Samuel, Debangshu, Abigail and Crisanna!
