We follow Academic Standards of the Arizona Department of Education.

Our multicultural education focuses on students' life experiences and community interests, promoting authentic inquiry and empowering students to address relevant issues

  • Multicultural English Language Arts (ELA) – features diverse literature and inquiry-based teaching, enhancing multiple literacies, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Multicultural Math – incorporates students' experiences and community knowledge to create standards-based lessons, fostering mathematical identity and real-world problem-solving skills.
  • Multicultural Science – centers on global and local phenomena, encouraging students to investigate, generate questions, and develop solutions to relevant science-related problems.
  • Multicultural Social Studies – is organized by resonant themes and helps students understand historical and contemporary events from various perspectives, fostering critical inquiry and global interconnectedness.

Our course approval process  aims to support creation of courses which improve student course offerings, strengthen Advanced Learning Experiences for students, and provides varied enrichment opportunities for students. All course proposals will be carefully reviewed for alignment to Arizona's College and Career Ready (AZCCR) Standards and our Curriculum Framework.

Each proposal to change, delete, or create a course is reviewed through several steps:

  1. Instructor proposes course with statement of need and course details
  2. Sr. Director of Curriculum and content specialists review proposals (2-4 weeks)
  3. Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum reviews (1-2 weeks)
  4. Submitted to Governing Board for approval (4-8 weeks)
  5. Submited for course competency approval to AZ Board of Regents (4 weeks)
